El Remanso Controls Open Play in Victory Over Clinova

The sixth day of play in the 2018 Cartier Queen’s Cup saw El Remanso prove too powerful, defeating Clinova 14-9 on the Queen’s Ground at Guards Polo Club.

El Remanso controlled the game throughout, led by a six-goal performance from Charlie Hanbury and ensured Clinova couldn’t make their impact on the match. El Remanso scored all fourteen goals from the field as they used exceptional team play to build a consistent attack. Committing nine more fouls than Clinova, El Remanso was able to strongly defend the Clinova set plays and overcome the perfect 4 for 4 penalty shooting from their opponents. The effective El Remanso attack shot 70% from the field and capitalized on every opportunity to capture their first win of the tournament.

The first two chukkas were all El Remanso as they raced out to a 5-1 lead, while Clinova struggled to convert on their opportunities, making just one of their first five shot attempts. Clinova broke through in the third chukka, with Malcolm Borwick scoring two goals and Nico Pieres adding one. El Remanso responded with a three goal chukka of their own to hold a commanding 8-4 lead heading into halftime.

After a relatively clean opening half, El Remanso found themselves in foul trouble throughout the second half, committing three fouls in each of the final three chukkas. The result was three penalty conversions for Borwick to pace the Clinova offense, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the potent El Remanso attack that continued to score goals and take advantage of each Clinova error. After Clinova made a push in the fifth chukka to reduce the deficit to two, El Remanso’s Hanbury once again made his impact felt on the game scoring his fifth and sixth goals of the game to seal the convincing 14-9 victory.
